Refreshing and Sweet Since 1898: Glenwood Springs Strawberry Days Festival, June 21-23, 2013 Glenwood Springs, Colorado has been serving up delicious summertime fun since 1898! Like a red, ripe, juicy strawberry, there’s nothing sweeter than a summer vacation in “America’s Most Fun Town” Glenwood Springs! Strawberry Days, Friday, June 21 – Sunday, June 23, is just the beginning of a season filled with a refreshing mix of festivals, activities and entertainment. As Colorado’s premier community celebration, Strawberry Days is the pick of the festival crop. Sayre Park on Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs becomes the focal point of the weekend festivities. The Strawberry Days Festival’s Fine Art and Craft Show has gone through some welcome upgrades for 2013. The newly-themed show is "Handmade by Artists Only." More than 100 artists and crafters will sell their wares in booths set up throughout the park and the park’s baseball field is transformed into a giant outdoor restaurant, beer and spirits garden, and entertainment venue. An old-fashioned parade down Glenwood’s main street (Grand Avenue) kicks off Saturday’s events at 10 a.m. June 22. Appealingly small town, the parade features a variety of colorful floats, regal horses, clubs and organizations, and the Miss Strawberry Days’ queen and court. Immediately following the parade, spectators are treated to free strawberries and ice cream in Sayre Park! Throughout the weekend, the kid-centered Family Fest offers interactive entertainment and creative experiences for youngsters, while at the Main Stage, a full musical line-up keeps crowds of all ages entertained. For old-fashioned rides or stomach-dropping thrills, head over to the Strawberry Days carnival at the Glenwood Springs Mall on highway 6 in West Glenwood. On Sunday morning, one and all are encouraged to participate in the Strawberry Shortcut; with 10K, 5K and a 1-mile fun run, there are options for all fitness levels. The route takes participants through the quiet streets of downtown Glenwood Springs, over the Grand Avenue Bridge and past landmarks including the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. The local Rotary Club also serves up a delicious pancake breakfast in Sayre Park beginning at 7 a.m. During Strawberry Days or anytime Glenwood Springs is ripe with things to do.
